Wait! Your laptop battery may not be defected. Here are a few ways to help
your battery last much longer than usual.
I recently took a trip to Finland to visit my wife's family. On the plane
ride over, my iBook shut down after the battery went down to 85% from 100% with
in a matter of 15 minutes of working in Flash and BBEdit. I posted my problem
to Apple's Discussions site and most of everyone there had the same problem I
had experienced.
I'm sure apple has this information posted on their site; however, here is
what I found to be a quick fix for some, and as for others, a final solution.
1) First open up the "Systems Preferences".
2) Second, open up "Energy Saver".
3) Make sure the "Optimize Energy Settings" menu is set to "Longest
Battery Life". Also change the second menu setting to "Battery Power"
when using the battery.
Optional:
4) Just for precautions, I think it's also wise to change the display settings.
You can open up this preference from the "System Preferences" window
as well.
Here you can see I've optimized my display settings to 800 x 600 screen resolution,
and changed colors from Millions to Thousands.
If you continue to have problems, you may want to purchase a new battery.
